Administration

Administration

The term ‘Administration’ as defined by the IBC Code means the Government of the State whose flag the ship is entitled to fly.

Polymerisation

A chemical reaction, usually carried out with a catalyst, heat, or light, and often under high pressure, in which a large number of relatively simple molecules combine to form a chain-like macromolecule. The combining units are called monomers, for example styrene is the monomer for polystyrene. The linear chains can be combined (cross linked) by addition of appropriate chemicals.

Tripartite Agreement

Chemical Companies that produce a new chemical and require that chemical to be transported by sea must obtain a provisional categorisation of that substance. The tripartite agreement is, in effect, a supplement to the IBC Code. Additional information about Tripartite Agreements Once evaluated, the product…

Index of Dangerous Chemicals Carried in Bulk

Index of Dangerous Chemicals Carried in Bulk

Provides an index of all chemicals referred to in the IBC Code and includes the additional various names known for a particular chemical. If a chemical is not listed in this Index then the transport by sea of that chemical is not permitted without permission from the vessels flag state. This ‘permission’ is normally granted by the inclusion of a chemical in the ‘Tripartite Agreement’.
